Work with the Oxford Improvisers

I have been an active member of the OI since 2005 and have performed in numerous concerts put on by the OI and have also written structured pieces for performing with the group.

The OI are a collective of musicians dedicated to performing and furthering free music improvisation in the Oxford area. The OI have been in existence for over 25 years.

There are regular weekly workshops run at Brookes University and once a term at the Music Department in Oxford University. There are monthly performances at the Old Firestation where structured or free pieces are performed with varying groups of member sof the OI along with regular guests from all over the world.

The OI also put on special performances in the Oxford area, notably at the Ashmolean in 2018 and 2019 and Waddesdon Manor in 2019. In the past the OI have run festivals and special performances in many Oxford venues.

Several of the OI musicians are leaders in the field and are highly accomplished. Examples are Phil Wachsmann, Lawrence Casserley, Kesia Decote, Martin Hackett, Bruno Gaustella to name only a few, but all have areas of specialisation and expertise in either or both of teaching and performing music especially in the free music field and some also work as Sound Artists.
