Wood Sounds One by Chris Stubbs June-July 2016* length ~14 minutes
video here
Soundscape with video inspired by the work of Simon Clements (Sylva Foundation) and Wittenham Clumps woods.
This piece should not be regarded as a musical piece, rather a sound scape with some video reactions.
The work is to be regarded as experimental work in progress and is not for distribution in any form.
It should be preferably viewed on a large screen TV and with good speakers - preferably with the sound not too high. Viewing on PCs or other small devices is not recommended.
Sounds:
Up to three contact microphones were attached to the sculptures of Simon Clements which were "played" with small wooden sticks and mixed down and recorded to 2-channels. These were placed on Mixere a n-channel mixer with loops and pitch/pan (windows 7). Audacity n-channel audio processing software (Ubuntu 14.0 version) was used for mixing down the Mixere output with a one take audio of a walk in the woods on Wittenham Clumps recorded on two channels. This produced a final two channel sound scape.
Video:
various videos and still images were collected from the wood on Wittenham Clumps.
Final production:
The sound scape and video/images were mixed down on the multi-channel video/sound editing software Open-Shot (Ubuntu 14.0) to produce the final video with sound.
Various formats are available the original higher quality MP4 format on DVD, and a lower quality version on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-yh6cwuShA.
